EB5 Program set to expire on Sept. 30, 2012 -- the same old extension ordeal

Current Status of EB-5 Regional Center Program Extension Bill

It's the law now, and the EB5 Regional Center Program has finally been extended until September 30th 2012, at which point we have to go through all this hassle again. The law in its entirety is posted below:

It's pretty disappointing that the EB-5 Regional Center Program, along with other expiring immigration programs such as Conrad 30, E-Verify and one religious workers category, was extended for only 3 years. The Congress appears to have grouped all immigration programs into one bundle and then applied the most non-controversial, minimum extension. Anyway, that's politics for you.

It's funny that this "pilot" EB5 Regional Center Program has been extended so many times that it should no longer be called a "pilot" program. The Congress should either do away with this "pilot" immigration program or make it permanent: Either keep it or get rid of it.

Actually the stopgap spending bill extending the EB-5 Regional Center program isn't law just yet ... it's up for a final vote in the Senate at the very last minute -- literally. It's scheduled to come up for a vote precisely two minutes after 4:30 pm on Wednesday, September 30 (two minutes are scheduled for debate). As long as it passes, someone will rush it to President Obama's desk to be signed that very same day.

I think this board is the proper place to ask you about the activation proccess. My link is not working properly, do you know why it is happening? http://www.eb-5center.com/?90e0476b7adf9b1e6e0ba158889,

Thank you for pointing out this error. You are correct, and the content has been amended to reflect this. I guess I have to revise it when the Senate approves this extension to day or tomorrow.

Not to worry -- the Senate passed the bill with just hours left before the program was due to expire! Presuming the president signed the bill, the program has now been extended through the end of October!

Our Congress has once gain come through at the last minute - good news overall but bad news for the blood pressure of attorneys like us with applications pending...

The EB-5 Regional Center Program needs a permanent extension to give a much-needed boost. With a bad economy and loss of jobs, Congress should act quickly.

I couldn't agree more - the badly titled Regional Center "pilot program" must be made permanent to avoid further unnecessary confusion. Congress should not bunch together disparate programs addressing completely dissimilar groups of immigrants. The issues addressed by E-Verify especially have absolutely no relation to the issues involved with EB-5 Regional Center.

It appears to me that E-Verify proponents are trying to ride on the non-controversial extension of EB-5 Regional Center Program.
