i-829 processing times
If it takes 6 months to process i-829 applications and there is a 90 days window to file i-829 what happens after the 90 days when the initial 2-year CPR validity period is over?
If you timely file I-829, then you can get a 1-year extension stamp in your passport (can be renewed if your I-829 has not been adjudicated even after 1 year) from the USCIS Field Office to show your CPR status even after the 2 years. In other words, you are in CPR status until the adjudication of I-829 conditions removal application.
Even without the 1-year extension stamp, I-829 Receipt Notice from USCIS serves as an evidence that you are maintaining your legal status in the United States. But to be safe, we recommend that you obtain the 1-year extension stamp in your passport.
