Why do Regional Centers exist? Couldn't I achieve the same goal through a non-regional method? I am confused on why I shouldn't pursue an EB-5 as an individual rather than through a regional center.
The Regional Centers exist first because they are allowed by U.S. immigration law to exist. :) Second, many of them (I would say a minority) operate successfully because they make it easier for many foreign investors to obtain green cards. Plain and simple. The benefits of RC are primarily two fold: One, they get to count indirect and induced jobs, in addition to directly-created jobs; and second, the EB-5 investor can participate as a Limited Partner in a larger project. Also, when you pool the money from multiple investors, you can pursue a larger project.
There is nothing stopping anyone from pursuing an individual EB-5 case, as long as you can create 10 full-time jobs directly through a particular business. You may be one of the minority who might be an ideal candidate for direct EB-5 case.
Read about advantages and disadvantages of doing individual EB-5 case at: http://eb-5center.com/direct_eb5.
It should be noted, however, around 90% of all filed EB-5 cases are based on Regional Center EB-5 projects. This means there must be some reason, because foreign EB-5 investors are not dumb.
